Hastelloy C-22
Hastelloy C22 (alloy C22) is a versatile austenitic nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with enhanced resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking. High chromium resists oxidising media while molybdenum and tungsten handle reducing media. It resists oxidising aqueous media including wet chlorine and mixtures with nitric acid or oxidising acids with chlorine ions — plus oxidising acid chlorides, formic and acetic acids, ferric and cupric chlorides, seawater, brine and many mixed or contaminated organic and inorganic solutions. It offers optimum resistance where reducing and oxidising conditions meet in process streams — valuable in multi-purpose plants with frequent "upset" conditions.
It resists grain-boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, suiting most chemical-process applications as-welded. Do not use above 1250°F — detrimental phases form beyond that temperature.
