Hastelloy B2
Hastelloy B2 is a solid-solution-strengthened nickel-molybdenum alloy with significant resistance to reducing environments — hydrogen chloride gas and sulfuric, acetic and phosphoric acids. Molybdenum, the primary alloying element, delivers that resistance, and the alloy suits as-welded use since it resists grain-boundary carbide precipitates in the heat-affected zone.
It resists hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures, plus pitting, stress-corrosion cracking and knife-line/HAZ attack — and handles pure sulfuric acid and many non-oxidising acids.
